Benefit Eligibility
Legal - Eleven (11) paid holidays a year for ten (10) month classified employees
and Twelve (12) paid holidays a year for twelve (12) month classified employees.
Classified
Holidays Local - Classified employees are entitled to five (5) local holidays a year, four (4)
calendared during the Christmas Holiday and one (1) assigned by the district.
12 Week Up to a maximum of twelve (12) weeks time off, for eligible employees, without
Family Leave Act & CFRA pay within a twelve (12) month period, measured forward from when this leave
begins.
CEU’s will be given for the completion of college, adult education, specialty school
Continuing Education (business or trade), workshops and courses that meet the specific requirements
Program Activities of the individual’s approved program plan. All work completed relative to the spe-
(Prior Approval) cific approved plan must be verified. With prior approval credit will be awarded.

A unit member can earn incentive bonuses up to the maximum allowed as de-
fined in the negotiated agreement between the teachers’ association and the
district for each unit earned. The individual may qualify for the bonus(es) by ac-
quiring new professional growth units approved by the district. The award for
Professional Growth Incentive earned credit(s) under the incentive schedule will be provided June 30th, or Janu-
Certificated ary 31st. Each unit earned is for one year. Approval from the District must be se-
(Prior Approval) cured before a unit member embarks upon said program by utilizing the form
provided by the personnel department. Verification of completion must also be
provided before bonuses are paid. The District has the right to establish a limit
on the number of persons participating in this program each year based upon a
budgetary limit. Contact site principal for a list of district needs.
Each employee is entitled to one (1) day sick leave, to be computed in hours, for
each month of employment under contract with pay, cumulative, without limit.
The annual allotment becomes available immediately upon the beginning of the Mountain View-Los Altos
Sick Leave
service in each contracted year. Sick leave entitlement for those serving less
than full-time will be on a pro rata basis. See Negotiated Agreement for complete
details. Union High School District
The employee who volunteers to donate sick leave must donate in minimum in-
crements of one (1) full-time equivalent day of leave credit. Donated leave cred-
its shall be used in the order donations are received. However, one day of leave
Sick Leave Donation will be used from each donor before a second day is utilized from any other do-
nor. This sequential process will be repeated for all donation rounds thereafter.
All transfers of eligible leave credits shall be irrevocable. However any leave not
used within twelve (12) months of donation, will revert to the donor(s). SUMMARY OF EMPLOYEE BENEFITS
In the event of the death of a member of a unit member’s immediate family, the
unit member is entitled to a maximum of three (3) days paid leave. If out-of-state
Bereavement Leave travel is required two (2) additional days will be allowed. This leave is not charge-
able to any other type of leave. See Negotiated Agreement for complete details.
In the event of a death of a unit member who is under contract to the district,
his / her beneficiary named on the “Affidavit of Designation to Receive Warrants”
Death Benefit shall be paid a death benefit of one (1) month’s salary in addition to salary
earned at the time of death.
For the purposes of district provided health care coverage in the MVLA District,
dependents are defined as married spouse or domestic partner as defined by
Covered Health Insurance California Family Code Section 297 and dependent children. Documentation of
Dependents
marriage/registered domestic partnership and dependent status of children (birth
certificate, adoption papers, custody papers, etc.) is required prior to coverage.
Classified employees have no disability coverage. The District strongly recom-
mends that the classified employees contact the CSEA representative for advice
Disability Benefits in obtaining disability insurance. Disability insurance for certificated staff is pro- December 2019-January 2020
